Van Hollen Appoints Neil Strobel as Director of DOJ Training & Standards Bureau
The Wisconsin Department of Justice - Division of Law Enforcement Services
provides assistance daily to the men and women of Wisconsin law enforcement.
From WILENET to the state Crime Labs to the Time System to Fast ID, this
critical support structure is in place to help you protect and serve our
citizens.
A key component to this effort is the Training & Standards Bureau. I’m
very pleased to share with you that I have appointed an experienced and
accomplished Wisconsin law enforcement officer, Neil Strobel, to be the Director
of this Bureau. Neil will begin his duties on May 14, 2007.
The Training & Standards Bureau serves as the staff of the Law Enforcement
Standards Board. The Bureau administers the programs of the Board for
certification of law enforcement, jail and secure detention officers,
instructors and academies It also implements statutes, administrative
rules and Law Enforcement Standards Board policies for the certifications of
schools and instructors, and maintains WILENET, the Wisconsin law enforcement
Website.
In addition, the Bureau administers reimbursement of training expenses for
participants in Standards Board programs and in DOJ training programs. It
also serves as the staff of the Standard Board's curriculum advisory committee
and other advisory groups that assist the Board. Finally, it coordinates
and supports statewide training provided by DOJ to the Wisconsin law enforcement
community.
Neil Strobel served as the Chief of the Merrill Police Department in Merrill,
Wisconsin, from 1996 to the present. Prior to his work with the Merrill Police
Department, he worked for the Waukesha Police Department as a Sergeant from 1987
to 1996; as a Detective from 1983 to 1987; and as a Police Officer from 1977 to
1983.
He has also served as an Adjunct Faculty member at North Central Technical
College in Wausau from 1996 to the present; Cardinal Stritch University in
Milwaukee from 2003 to the present; Upper Iowa University in Wausau from 2003 to
the present; and at the National Institute of Ethics in Gulfport, Mississippi,
from 2003 to the present.
Neil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University
of Wisconsin - Platteville and a Masters of Science degree in Management from
Cardinal Stritch University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National
Academy.
I know that Neil will be a great asset to DOJ and assist us as we serve you and
the citizens we are entrusted to protect.
