J.B. VAN HOLLEN
ATTORNEY GENERAL
AG Van Hollen to Hold Summit on Public Safety
Some of the most important issues facing the criminal justice system are
issues involving crimes against children and the impact of violence and drugs on
our communities. As your Attorney General, I want to better understand the root
causes of these problems and identify how we can work together to further
improve the safety and well being of all Wisconsin citizens. To advance
that goal, I am inviting you to join me in a Working Summit on Public Safety on
Thursday and Friday, October 18 and 19, in Wisconsin Dells.
I
recognize that local law enforcement is confronted with these problems on a
daily basis. Your observations and experiences are invaluable to helping
me identify the best approaches to these problems so that we can advance our
common goal of making Wisconsin safer.
That’s why
this event will not be another lecture-driven law enforcement conference.
This summit will be an interactive meeting where law enforcement administrators,
officers and other criminal justice leaders will have an opportunity to discuss
their concerns, thoughts, and ideas with me, Department of Justice staff, and
other criminal justice practitioners from throughout the State.
To help
frame the discussion, I have identified three broad topics: Crimes Against
Children in Our Age of Technology; The Ever Evolving Problem of Violence and
drugs; and how the Department of Justice and others can work together to make a
difference. The summit will also recognize the contributions of some of
our criminal justice partners and the traditional legal update with Dave
Perlman.
The event
will be held at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells.
Attendees are invited to an Opening Reception on Wednesday, October 17 and the
summit will get underway Thursday morning. You can register for the summit
on-line at www.wilenet.org or complete and mail-in the registration form found
in this bulletin. All summit materials and meals are included in the
registration fee.
I look
forward to meeting with you at the summit and I would like to thank you again
for your commitment to excellence in law enforcement, and for the good work you
do every day to help protect our children, families and great Wisconsin
communities.
