Crime Labs

Laboratory Service Areas

The state is served by three crime labs located in Madison, Milwaukee, and Wausau. Figure 1 shows the service area for each lab.

The Milwaukee Laboratory serves the southeast corner of the state, taking cases from an eight county area. The only exception is the Questioned Document Unit, which serves an additional eight counties (Fig. 2). The Wausau Laboratory serves the northern part of the state. At present, the Wausau lab staffs only the following disciplines: drug identification, fingerprint/footwear/tire identification, forensic imaging, and field response. All other types of examinations in the Wausau area are handled by the Madison Laboratory. The Madison Laboratory services the south-central and southwest part of the state and provides additional services to the northern part of the state as outlined above.
