I am a three-year old, specially trained,
Labrador Retriever. I am a special agent with the Department of
Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, who helps other
special agents find out how fires got started. In February, 2000, I
returned from 13 weeks of training at the Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearm (ATF) Canine Training School in Front Royal, Virginia. At
first, I was trained alone. I learned how to smell many different
things, so I can tell if someone set a fire on purpose. Then my new
partner came. His name is Special Agent Jeffrey Fennig, and he works
as a Deputy State Fire Marshall for the Department of Justice's
Division of Criminal Investigation in Milwaukee. We worked hard
together and learned a lot. After we met all of the requirements, we
received a special certificate. There are only about 50 other dogs
in America like me that can do what I do. We travel all over the
state to help police try to catch people who start fires. I love my
job, and I am proud to work for the Department of Justice.
